Bloggers usually dread the thought of having to migrate their site from one server to another. Owners of WordPress sites, however, can almost look forward to it: there are plug-ins that offer to do the job for you.
One of the best plug-ins for this particular job is undoubtedly All-in-One WP Migration. It boasts over a 100,000 active installations, no prerequisites, and offers a remarkable ease of use. It comes in two editions: as a freebie and a commercial upgrade.
The free edition is currently limited to 512 MB; the commercial edition can handle a migration of up to 5GB (regardless of server limits), which is quite something considering that the plug-in will wrap your entire site, databases and all, into one file, then import it in tiny chunks. To the developers’ credit, you get to limit the itemized list of “exportable” components such as media uploads, themes, plug-ins, and the like (via the Advanced Options button).
The ability to make replacements within the current database is also a plus.
The only export method supported without extra add-ons will download your site’s archive to your local computer. Extensions for Amazon S3, Dropbox, Google Drive, and FTP, currently sell at 79 USD each, which certainly does seem rather pricey for a one-time event. Unless it’s not.
The plug-in sports a nifty backup-and-restore feature, that makes it easy to fall in love with (no scheduling, though, as of yet).
